Characters & dialogue
Over the Hill is a quiet game, but a few characters cross your path. Here are the voices you meet on the trail, with their lines quoted verbatim from the game.
Buddha
The wandering nature-guide
A mellow, mystical soul you meet on the trail — the only named character the game configures. Long on cosmic vibes, short on directions.
Howdy!
Hi there!
Nature's my temple, bro. Earth's energy, you feel it?
I can feel our souls bonding already.
And remember: trees are your friends.
What can I do for you?
See you around!
The Merchant
Vehicle vendor & respawn point
Set up shop wherever you roam. Swaps and upgrades your rig, takes Pebbles, and keeps nudging you toward those mysterious lights on the horizon.
Hello explorer, I’m merchant. Here you can change your vehicle or upgrade and customize it. You can also respawn here from the map.
From the Merchant you can change your vehicle or upgrade and customize it. You can also use the merchant as a respawn point by selecting its icon on the area map.
Here you can choose the vehicle and its various customizations.
You can also choose which tools to equip on the vehicle.
You can use Pebbles to upgrade the vehicle.
Have you seen those mysterious lights in the distance? Why not go take a closer look?
…and remember to bring me pebbles if you want your vehicle to become more powerful.
The Trail Guide
Your tutorial host
The friendly voice that walks you through your first drive and then sends you off into the world with a few words of trail wisdom.
Howdy! Here to get your driving license? No hurry, start by looking around you a little.
Beautiful, isn't it? Now let's move, there is so much to explore!
The tutorial is over. You can now choose from the main menu which region you want to start your adventures from.
Remember that every area hides a passage leading to a completely new and unexplored area. Find it!
But don’t rush: the important thing is not the destination, but the journey.
You now know everything you need to live this adventure. Discover the rest on your own.
Safe travels!
The tutorial is over. You may only explore this map for now. But in due time, your adventures will take you to different landscapes and regions of the world.
Dialogue is quoted verbatim from the game’s localization. Speakers are grouped by who says what in-game; the demo’s tutorial narration also appears on the getting-started guide.
